Short Eared Owls can be tricky birds to photograph as they have a habbit of staying well hidden on the ground in long grass. I spent a few weeks visiting a site in the UK countryside where several had set up home for the winter, and was concentrating on one that was perched in a tree, when I caught one out the corner of my eye fly up from the field. I just had enough time to spin round with the camera and fire two shots before it was gone.
