Swansea Channel, NSW, Australia
The rise of the Super Moon in my area tonight coincided with sunset. Moonrise 5:06pm, Sunset 5:09pm
My son and I decided that a good place to watch the show might be from the break-wall lining the channel into Lake Macquarie. A bit of a stab in the dark but I wanted to try to get some land and water in my photos and knew the island just off the coast would be close to where the moon would rise. Running a bit behind schedule we arrived just 10 minutes before the expected moonrise and picked a random spot amongst the fishermen set up along the rocks. When we spotted the moon rising out of the Pacific Ocean it was spectacular - it looked huge. Everyone stopped what they were doing to look as it was quite amazing. For a while the shape of the moon was distorted until it was well clear of the horizon. With the sun setting behind us, boats coming into and out of the channel and waves crashing around us it was a wonderful sight.
It was only on the way home that I remembered the name of the island located just off the coast from the channel - the rocks of which can be seen in this photo - Moon Island.
