Kittiwake, Larus tridactyla. Image taken on Mumbles Pier, Swansea, Wales, UK. A small colony of Kittiwakes breeds and nests each year on the local pier and is very used to fishermen being nearby which allows a very close approach to the birds. The image was taken on a cloudy day that decreased the contrast allowing a soft feel to the image. The bird was sitting on the nest , brooding two chicks. Camera was supported on a Gitzo 1541 tripod, a Wimberely head attached with a Sigma 1.4 mm teleconverter and extension tube fited to the lens to allow a tighter frame and close focus.
