The church of Santa Maria de Palau de Rialb is located on the edge of a hill, in a prominent position 200 meters from the road to Gualter Folquer. It is possible that the name that identifies the site as a record of any residence or castle built by the Counts of Urgell and a tycoon who reconquered to the muslims and fortified the surrounding area. In any case, one has no documentary evidence of this possible "palau". The town is 460 meters high and the population is scattered. The creation of the temple we find the moments of transition in the eleventh and twelfth centuries, when precisely the momentum repopulation of Count Armengol IV ie all reality that then formed the county of Urgell, led to the total colonization of this region and the region. This temple, for many the most beautiful Romanesque church of the Barony of Rialb, was studied by Puig, which is considered a jewel from the architectural point of view.
