Me and fellow aurora cadet Miles Morgan were waist deep in snow with Stu, laughing at how the ice was cracking our faces and encrusting our cameras.
We were all freezing in -29 at this point, but its never as bad as it sounds. This is fairly low level aurora, but it was starting to build into a huge band over the sky, but certainly not like the grand finale some three hours later, that lit the sky in every direction.
Taken using a Canon 5D2, 24mm TSEmk2 @ f5.6 for 30secs ISO1600. Processing was carefully performed to push up the tones, without ruining the sense of night time, but it was all there in the RAW file.
Often people ask, how much can I see with my eyes? Well, all of it, its just not as vivid as the camera captures.
Hope you enjoyed this shot, plenty more over on http://www.davidclapp.co.uk
