Old science always taught us that predators keeps the population of various prey species in check, never quite allowing them to over populate an area. But if you take a moment and think about this relationship, you will soon realize that prey animals can in actual fact live and thrive with out predators. On the other hand a predator needs prey to survive … so the conclusion is in fact the prey keep predator numbers in check.
