Protected by two mountain ranges often exceeding 2000 meters, the salty Badwater Basin is almost 100 meters below sea level. The moslty dry basin is sometimes filled by water coming from snowy mountain peaks. It carries with it a large amount of salt before drying out under the desert sun.
