This confident little fellow flew straight at me across a pond to settle on a stick nearby. He then went through several poses, including looking right at the lens for this shot (hand-held).
The background is the surface of a lagoon on a bright but overcast day.
I was pleased to learn that this image made it into Audubon Magazine's Photo Awards Top 100 for 2012.
