As I've tried to show here with my series of osprey photos, when an osprey manages to catch a fish--and often they dive down and come up with nothing or they can't take off with the fish and have to give up, there's always another bird on the lookout to see if they can steal the fish away--other ospreys and an occasional eagle--so a bird has to be quick and strong or be clever and conceal the catch if they can. I think that's what this osprey may have been doing, though I can't be sure. That's my guess.
