This last week I spent four days shooting in Olympic National Park, a veritable home away from home of sorts since I’d worked a couple summers in the park during college, spending my off time romping around the valleys and mountains. Without a doubt it’s one of my favorite places in the lower 48’s.

One afternoon I spent several hours shooting in rainforest before finally stumbling out to the Hoh River near sunset. It felt great to be alone in such a beautiful place with only the elk for company. The brilliant blue hue in the water results from the load of glacial flour it carries down valley from the high glaciers on Mount Olympus, refracting blue light while absorbing yellow and red.
