as an avant-gard photographer, He does not, necessarily, stick to any classical aesthetics of the modern (30's to 60's) photography.
His colours are striking and the textures, unique. I always loved the blue tones.
his contemporay images show us that the statement matters. the idea, the observer's interpretation of what can be seen framed there, what he thinks the photographer saw and meant. many books (la chambre claire; Esthétique de la photographie) have explained such complex idea of subjectivation of the observed object (photography).
But to Rio Branco, this tricky way of expressiveness seems natural. He's a true master of the subjective.
His images show us our own feelings, our own anguishes. our own fears or wishes.
his photos are the observer, placed inside the emotive plot of the static scene.
most of his pictures presents human subjects. but a few, only a few do not.
Still, they also have the power to embrace the observer.
It's hard to pay a tribute to such style. And I didn't use any human figures to do so.

Instead, I used a boat. A lonely, simple boat.
