Aliens in my garden...

Doing some work in the garden today and I came across these insects. They jump around like mad when disturbed. They are "landhoppers" (Arcitalitrus darrieni) and are actually members of the shrimp family. An alien species introduced from Australia, probably in potted plants. The photo won't win any awards, but I thought I'd share this.

Going over to the dark side?

I thought I'd try my hand at a bit of landscape photography. Unfortunately the light wasn't there, but I gave it a shot anyway. I'm not going to win any prizes, but its work in progress! I just need to wait for better light and I'll give it another shot. I need to get a better lens than the 18-55, not the sharpest tool in the box.

Make the most of it....

The weather this winter has been abysmal, very mild with almost constant rain. So not many chances to get out with the camera. Instead I've been doing some fieldwork, exploring different habitats. I've been using Bushnell trail cameras to see whats about in promising places. Here's a video of a badger filmed recently using one of these cameras: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAYqe8kkfas

Freaky October weather

We've had record temperatures in the UK this week. It was at least 25 degrees centigrade today. Some plants have started flowering again, the weather has confused them. Its odd to see new flowers when there are berries on the holly bushes!
