Polarized filters, some people swear by them, others think they ruin the shot and mess with you're aperture, but all this aside if you're going to use one make sure you learn the proper way.
First, what is polarization? Well, it's a bit tough to explain but I'm going to try and give you the best definition I know how.
Think of light as a wave, it vibrates as it travels and each ray of light vibrates and travels in all different direction. So in order to Polarize the light we must use a polarized filter because it squeezes any light that is close to vertical (or horizontal depending how you having your filter set) through many narrow slits that are in the filter and completely blocks out other light that isn't vertical (or horizontal) and the result is that the light is polarized.
