Scenes of innate beauty exist everywhere, both in nature and that touched by the hand of man. With my images, it is not my intention to document a scene as a journalist might, but to move beyond the literal and record a scene in such a way that evokes an emotion or feeling, and to focus the viewer in a way that is meditative in nature. With the camera’s ability to record a period of time in the still photograph, I often use exposures from a few seconds to several hours in length. Similar to a meditation technique in which you allow your vision to go soft, allowing the mind to settle, the camera records while movement blurs, becoming soft. In both cases, life and mind can be cleansed of distracting elements and a more contemplative nature is born.
