.

Arctic ground squirrel.

These creatures live in harsh cold conditions, in a places, where there can still be snow in the middle of June...

So more than half of their live they spend in hibernation.

Romance.

Arctic ground squirrels, same species as on the previous picture, but during their mating season in spring... Well, actually in June, which is considered summer in some places, but not in Kamchatka....

Guilty.

This is an arctic ground squirrel caught by a fox in Kamchatka. This fox was living next to me during a year I spent in a remote ranger station in Kronotsky Nature Reserve. I called her Alisa.

At this time in summer 2011 she already has 4 cubs, check this photo for a portrait of her with one of them http://500px.com/photo/20139041. There are several more photos of Alisa in a set called Alisa.

And about her catch... Well, it is arctic ground squirrel, several previous photos on my profile are about them. They are amazing animals.

The moments I spend (at least twice a week) looking at your blog and reports are my finest moments on the internet. Beautiful stories in pictures!
