to the city of Ottawa, Canada for the sole purpose of being alone and to spend some quality time with my camera. I have been to this city a few times and had been wanting to take a Blue Hour (BH) photo of the parliament building for some time. In retrospect, the date picked was not the best as my graduation was the next morning and I did not arrive back home till midnight. Anyway, the first two photos here are, more or less, what I expected to walk away with but, as always, I learned a lot. My previous BH photos were all taken with the sun setting behind the building...in other words I was looking west. This time however, the sun was setting behind me and that meant I was facing in the easterly direction. This made a huge difference as the saturated blue sky I have always expected failed to materialize. The type of sky I mean can be found here

The blue here is different and does not appeal to me as much as the blue in the first 2 links I provided but the blue hour still appeals to me even if I can't shoot in the western direction. The outcome is good...I am pleased with the detail, had a good time and walked away with some, in my onion, really good shots. The day time shots of this building actually impressed me more because I did not plan on them being any good...they were just taken as possible locations to shoot from for the BH shots. The last two non BH photos below were actually inspired by a FLICKR contact named Steve Cole. He has a an exceptional way of framing the main subject of his work and this was my attempt to emulate him. While this was not new to me (I shot film for years and my vacation photos from the 00's (you know that time period between 1990 and 2010), it was something I had not done in over a decade. So I thanks him here for providing me with inspiration! Find his most excellent stream here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kingnik/
