Along with studio and location-based portraiture, he is fascinated by the possibilities of narrative expression through cinematic media, and the high energy productions that make them a reality. Though firmly rooted in the technical aspects of image-making, Jim loves the relationships that form from his work, be it personal connections with portrait subjects or collaborative ones with other artists. His portraits work to reveal a unique interpretation of his subjects’ personality and share it with the viewer. Some of Jim’s clients include AmpSurf, Hathway Tech, Cal Poly Athletics, and individual artists and professionals like Garrett Deiter and Megan Whitney.
While fielding freelance photography with clients in SLO and surrounding areas, Jim works with Really Right Stuff, Inc., one of the world’s foremost producers of camera support equipment, producing product tutorials and descriptive media for web and print applications. Of course, personal projects find their time as well, and tend to be forays into new techniques, applications, and locations. He is always ready to help someone realize their ideas for visual media.
