Born and raised in the town of Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, Javier Gil was surrounded by art and music at a fairly early age. As he grew older he began to define his unique style, and as a means of expression he found photography to be what he was mostly drawn to. It was not until five years ago that he decided to make a career out of it, and not just merely keep it as a hobby. With his undeniable talent, keen eye, and excellent quality of entrepreneurship he was determined to excel in the field and make his work be noticed. As a freelance photographer, he continues to develop his knowledge and practice in the art. His profound creativity also landed him a job as one of the main graphic artists at a prosperous local advertising agency, where he sharpened his style and produced a wide array of work. As a result of hard work, he ran his own photographic studio and graphic arts office in Mayagüez for two years. After dedicating a while to commercial, wedding, and fashion photography he decided to go back to the roots of what inspired him to start shooting in the first place, landscapes and surfing. He then decided to create 787SURF, a local surf magazine which purpose is to document Puerto Rico's surf culture, help the local surfers be noticed for their athletic abilities, create a community, and spread the word on a diverse array of musicians, artist and social projects. Inspired by this venture he finally decided to move the town of Rincon where he has been dedicating to pushing his dream forward ever since. This is only the beginning of many more good things to come, stay tuned...
