Thank you for taking the time to look at my images. I hope that you enjoy viewing them as much as I have enjoyed creating them.

I spent my childhood between Leavenworth Washington, nestled in the Cascade Mountains, Merced California, the gateway to Yosemite, and my young adulthood In Hawaii. I have enjoyed countless hours in the outdoors, mountain biking, rock climbing, hiking, backpacking, fishing, canoeing, scuba diving, and whatever else would get my blood pumping. Through the years and during my adventures I developed a love of the wilderness. The wilderness became more important to me than just the activities I was doing. I began to see the real beauty in the details of the natural world around me and I wanted more. I was mesmerized by the grand landscapes, especially around dawn and dusk when the sun was low and casts that wonderful warm light, but also in the tiniest of details of flowers and insects. Often while hiking in the mountains or strolling on the beach I would find myself stopping and looking at a small scene and seeing the art and beauty in it. The smooth lines or the texture and patterns that pine needles would create or the way the water would wash the sand away from a seashell would captivate me. Being able to capture this in a way that would convey the emotions I felt became very important to me. I soon realized though, that taking a snapshot was not what I had seen. It had no dynamic range and seemed “flat”. It did not create the feelings of awe I had when I was there and witnessed it. Put simply…it lacked the art of my vision and passion I wanted to convey.

This became a journey for me. Finding the best camera and lenses I could afford at the time was really just secondary to what I wanted. I wanted to have my images “pop” with the same color and sharpness that I originally saw. I wanted the same emotions and feelings to be evoked by my images as if you were standing right there beside me as I saw it. Learning how to use my camera and how to process images in a way that would do this became my sole ambition. Through this process I found my best images were not the ones that are technically perfect necessarily, but more importantly the ones that move the viewer through the image gracefully, in a fluid motion. Like the feeling you get when you’ve just read a great book. While photography does record a moment, what I try and capture is the feeling I had during that moment. This is the power and artistic nature of photography for me.

Now, I live in the Vancouver Washington with my wonderful wife and two awesome boys and cannot imagine living anywhere else. With the Cascades, Columbia River Gorge, and the rugged Oregon and Washington coastline within a short drive, there are always an abundance of amazing scenes for me to capture.
