The Char Dham Yatra (Part-I)

Published August 20th, 2012

The first part of this 'yatra' or pilgrimage that Hindus undertake once in a lifetime entails visiting the source of two holy rivers the Yamuna and the Ganga at Yamunotri and Gangotri respectively. The journey starts at Mussoorie, with an overnight stay at Barkot. Yamunotri is approached then, through Janki Chatti. After paying respects to the river Goddess there, one returns to Barkot and makes the journey to Uttarkashi the next day for a night halt before heading to Gangotri early the next day.

After the snow

It started raining as I started the downward descent from Yamunotri. The mountains were laden with snow an hour later.
