Vincenzo was born in Rome on the 3rd of July 1975, the Year of the Rabbit, according to the Chinese Horoscope. He was a curious, talkative school boy, a bad math student and a good cartoonist, in an attempt to survive creatively during the endless lessons of Ancient Greek and Latin grammar.
On his very first day as an undergraduate student of Political Science in Rome (October 1995), Vincenzo was welcomed by this significant, definitive statement from the Faculty Dean (Università degli Studi Roma Tre), who said “Through this field of study, we are not assuming that you will find a job and become rich. Certainly, we will give you a solid cultural foundation, ranging from History to International Law and Politics. Our wish is to turn you all into highly conscious, informed and responsible citizens". As a matter of fact Vincenzo didn't become rich, nor did he find a job easily and eventually he left Italy.
Years later (2001) Vincenzo was living, working and studying in Berlin. After unsuccessful attempts to complete a Ph.D. in History at the Humboldt Universität, he took part one day in a marketing seminar at the Technische Universität Berlin and was welcomed by a well dressed Professor, who told his young audience "If you are sitting here, you have come to the conclusion that life is made of concrete, rational, materialistic and realistic choices. At the end of the day, it's all about money. You are not here to become an artist or nourish your spirit. You want to learn how to make money." Once again, Vincenzo didn't become rich or find the job of his dreams.
Two years later (2003), after having specialized in International Relations in Italy (Rome and Milan), Vincenzo found a job at a Rome-based multinational company. He didn't become rich, but could afford a good Nikon reflex, some Nikkor lenses (20, 50 and 85mm) and started attending a school of photography in his hometown, specializing in photoreportage. In order to survive, he devoted his entire spare time to studying, practicing and learning the techniques and languages of photography.
Years later, Vincenzo started traveling around, mostly in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, combining his interest in foreign languages and cultures (English, French, Spanish, Arabic, German) with his passion for travel photography, social reportage and portraits.
He is currently studying video-making and deepening his knowledge of light control, both in photography and video.
One day he will again meet that Professor of Marketing from Technische Universität and confess his complete, resigned, unapologetic failure in the art of being a concrete, rational money maker….
