For some time, I've been wanting to find a change or replacement to Flickr. There's a lot of good to be said about Flickr - the community aspect is second to none and there are some amazing photographers on Flickr. However, their draconian approach to how it deals with members leaves a lot to be desired. While I've never personally experience the heavy hand of Flickr's moderators dealing out harsh punishments for what feels like insignificant offenses, it's a worry and I've been trying to find another place to keep my photos.
500px looks like it answers all my requirements. It looks fantastic, it's fast and it's superb value for money. That I can have my own personal portfolio site as well as the more usual "photostream" look and feel is great. I used to run a personal portfolio site but found I didn't have time to spare to keep it up to date and so with everything in a single place, 500px takes care of that side of things.
