Alex Lake

I’m a photographer. I live in Los Angeles. I shoot everything that catches my eye and I’m always craving new experiences and adventures. I started in photography in 2004 and I haven’t stopped learning the art and subject of photography since I picked up my first camera.

I started in portraits, landscapes and still life. I studied for 2 years at the New York Institute of Photography, as well as read a plethora of books and studied a wide variety of different photographers.

I've since mainly worked in the fields of fashion, music and portraiture, in addition to my own aesthetic projects.

More recently I've been focusing on an underwater series of photographs which is the bulk of the work on this profile.

Some of my favorite photographers are:
Henri Cartier-Bresson
Ansel Adams
Vivian Maier
Anni Leibovitz
Abelardo Morrel

They were or are each masters of their own style and field, revealing perfect stories that speak to humanity and escape the label of a single age or generation.

Photography is story telling. Evoke emotions, establish relationships, develop characters and describe the scene. Don’t be afraid to use foreshadowing, to start a chapter without knowing how it ends, or to do a little editing before you publish. And remember, the story will always be more important than the spelling or the punctuation.
