I started doing self-portraits in 2010, tentatively, without being any good at them. I had decided, somehow, that I was going to use photography as the encouragement/excuse/something to put more effort into my appearance, to finally wear all the crazy clothes I've been buying and hoarding and keeping in closets for years. "Leap" was the first one I really enjoyed, in a ballgown I'd bought with a friend when I was 16.
The GDSP made it easier. ( http://guestdirectedself.tumblr.com/ ) I like a challenge, a prompt, a start to a sentence. I entered a few other photo contests/challenges/somethings, and they helped. I don't tend to win. Sometimes my interpretation can be a bit off.
Admittedly, I'm a bigger fan of bodies, including my own, when they're in states of distress. I like bruises, rashes, scars and scabs.
