Scientist, artist, musician and photographer. Specializing in nature and event photography. I study plants for my day job, and am inspired by the beauty of these organisms for my design motifs as a wood sculptor. Learning to "see" has been very useful to me in my career and various artistic endeavors. My first photographic efforts were focused on the plants I study and teach about, but I now enjoy doing macro photography of many different organisms. Capturing the beauty of a landscape is also one of the things I enjoy about photography. For the past several years I have been doing event photography for art expositions, woodturning symposiums, chamber music concerts, and Irish music festivals. Capturing the stories that are happening in real time is very different than doing nature photography, but I enjoy this challenge just as much as finding an interesting insect or landscape to photograph.

I've been away....

Published April 18th, 2012

The past month has been very busy with travel to Australia and to Washington, DC. I'm back and trying to adjust to my "regular" life again. I'm so far behind it seems as if I'll never catch up again - from work, home, and photography. I have thousands of new photos in my workflow, and so I may be a little slow in posting here, or in commenting on my favorite photographers.

Here are some recent pics from Australia, including first light from my Canon 5D Mark III.
