Anthony Presley

Capturing the soul of a scene is what pushes photography from simple documentary works to emotive, and sometimes dark, artistic pieces. Through my work, I aim to capture the macabre side of the human spirit in a unique aesthetic with profound consequence on the viewer’s psyche and heart. If I have lead the viewer to a place of recognition and healing, I feel as though I have done my job.
Over the past 10 years, I have experimented with several photographic styles in order to capture what I call the “inherent macabre spirit,” which was influenced heavily by my love of science fiction and horror film and fascination by the deep impact psychosocial trauma has had on people in my life, including me. I believe that capturing the moments we find most fearful or traumatic has a healing effect and translates well into each person’s life.
I approach each photography as its own entity and strive to produce a unique point of view that haunts viewers long after their viewing has ceased. Capturing these precious and life-altering emotions in a way that allows each person to connect the scene with a moment from their past is a gift I work to develop every day.
My biggest influences are Joel-Peter Wirkin, Alfred Hitchcock, Peter Ma, Stanley Kubrick, and Brian Transeau. From their work, I draw inspiration and direction for mine. My ultimate goal is to establish a business in which my work’s visual psychology is appreciated and respected at a similar level to those artists I mentioned above.……
