Taking a photograph is not as simple as pressing the shutter. There is more to it. I am capturing the expression and emotion of the subject. I am adjusting the settings and changing the composition in order to help capture said emotion. I am also capturing the emotion I am feeling through the creative choices and direction I give the subject. When I’m out taking photos, nothing else matters. It’s my own alternate form of meditation, bringing me to the moment at hand and fulfilling it completely.
In the end, there is nothing better than photographing the emotion shared in the moment between a newly-wed couple, tears streaming down the bride’s face. The emotion of an adventurer in awe of the stillness and beauty of an abandoned structure, the paint curling off the walls and faded from years of natural decay. The emotion of the surfer’s reaction to catching the perfect wave, hair soaked with the salty water. Emotion is arguably the most important and experienced aspect of human existence, and being able to capture it creatively and accurately is my focus.
