Photographing Hummingbirds

Published December 27th, 2013

I had a dream to photograph Colibries, which are also known as Hummingbirds. In my country and in the entire continent we don't have those beautiful and elegant birds, so when I had a chance to go to a trip to Costa Rica I knew I must go and make the dream to come true.

Two days after the arrival to Costa Rica I first saw a little hummingbird at the Tortuguero national park. It was a joy to see the little bird flies around with great speed and agility. Throughout the all trip I had more and better chances to photograph the hummingbirds flying, eating and resting. I also understood why we call them hummingbirds. The speed they flaps wings is astonishing (about 12-80 times per seconds!) because of the great speed, they produce an humming sound, whuch you can hear when they pass around you.

I fulfilled my dream and made some great pictures and I'm happy to share them with you.
