Something's Buried Neath the Maple

Published February 23rd, 2014

Someone saw them digging there

rain slicked

with pick and spade

High in a tree

eyes amber sin

dark as midnight shade

Blackest bird

perched in the gloom

and watched

the shovelled soil

Crow sat still

so very still

to mull this heinous toil

Out 'neath the golden

maple tree

entangled in her berth

Something buried

bides it's time

waiting to unearth

And Crow's

still there

amongst the leaves

of fine October brass

Screaming out

the crime he's seen

to all who dare to pass.

Three Dead Scarecrows and a Jigger of Rum

Published May 9th, 2012

Crow went on a killing spree

Flew up into the dawn

Pecked left and right

with knife of night

and left three brothers blind

Crow gathered up

their sightless eyes

and to the well he flew

His mortal sin

threw buttons in

and listened as they fell

Each brother sagged

upon his cross

in cornfields wet with dew

Each cried defeat

and crow did eat

while they no longer saw

From gaping holes

the brothers blinked

and bled straw unto their death

whilst crow washed down

his stolen meal

with rum upon his breath
