The passion to capture the shot of the moments that inspire me, began when I was about 16 years old and did a vacation job in a photography shop. I learned the photography basics and how to develop the pictures of the clients. Man, that was fun! It took a whole month’s wage to purchase my first SLR camera, a Nikon F50 with matching lenses. This was the start of a fantastic journey that took me throughout different moods and cultures, from the Caribbean, over Europe, to the Middle East and Asia. Different adventures. But a nice picture can just be grasped in your own garden, at the next serendipity of new elements that cross our path. In this journey I’m continuously searching for the element that makes my subject special, the suiting setting, the light that makes the picture.
Photography is more than just the hunt. It’s about the smiles that come with the memories. It’s about engagement and bliss. With this in mind, we can take or make a picture. We make a picture randomly, without any preparation. We take a picture when we actively work on the right setting to get it spot on.
What it all boils down to is the fact the world just doesn’t fit conveniently into the format of a 35mm camera. Not even on the sensor of my full frame camera. Not even into the Hasselblad I dream of. We are only able to capture what we think is the essence…. the visual aspect of the emotion that struck us.
