Chikur Heart

I am just starting out in portrait photography. I am initially focusing on fashion/beauty salon style work which I can do on-location where space permits when Salons are willing. My background has been in graphic design for print publication and I have gravitated over to photography over the past 6 years(as an amateur). I live in Oregon where the natural beauty is also a joy to photograph and started out doing that at first. Now I'm very appreciative of the clarity and detail I see in high end fashion photography and the smooth and subtle tonal values of medium format. My current camera is rather limited in resolution and dynamic range but it is still a great learning tool. I've noted the huge advances that Nikon and Canon have made, especially in their very expensive high end models but I'm still desiring medium format for that soft and subtle look. I also recognize that very creative lighting with decent lighting equipment is a factor as well but I'm still learning a lot with my low end gear. My next camera may be the Nikon D7000 as it is about the same cost that I paid for my S3 but quite an improvement. Baby steps for now are appropriate. My Photoshop experience runs much deeper than my photographic experience and I will be posting some projects as they come to completion that attempt to mimic high end, high budget fashion, commercial or fantasy shoots with only resourcefulness in place of a commercial budget and equipment. I am very grateful for a site like this and welcome any comments and advice. I have much to learn.
