Capturing New York Moments

Published June 14th, 2012

I've been trying to walk with my camera out and ready to go more often as of late and it's paying off. It's a difficult thing to do in New York because everyone immediately assumes you're a tourist, so you get more bills waved in front of your face, more people trying to buy or sell you things, and more native New Yorkers intentionally avoiding you and thinking you're the bane of their existence. In any case, I'm doing it. And taking lots of pictures here and there as I'm going from place to place during my workday. Here's some of what I've captured so far.

I've been setting my D7000 to shoot in Monochrome a lot recently, and I find I like shooting in B&W more. I shoot in RAW+JPEG FINE, so I have all the color information still available in the RAW file should I decide in post that the picture really needs color. In any case, know that all the black and whites here were shot that way. Some of the colors were shot in black and white.

New York Fog

taken while looking down 5th this morning from 47th street. I like the way the reflection of the one building lines up with the disappearance of the Empire State Building in the fog.
