Exploring above the Bow River Valley

Published April 5th, 2012

On an overdue trip to the mountains of Alberta, Canada; I ventured south of Canmore. The drive starts nice and easy and leads out of the Bow River Valley and before long the pavement changes to gravel. This is where the ascent up the side of the mountain starts. Each turn of what is called the Smith-Dorrien trail leads up higher and higher, 50 to a hundred linear meters at a time, until you come to a plateau. The long trek upwards reveals Whiteman's Pond, which is hidden in the shadow of the a mountain ridge above. The southern Edge of the Pond is depicted in Genesis. The side of the mountain traps the water and floods the plain.

Departing some 8 kilometers deeper in to the wild, the narrow and winding road leads to Goat pond. A small one lane bridge crosses the neck of Goat pond and created a awesome location to capture the Goat Pond series of landscapes.
