A brief connection with a man of great humility...

Not far from the road, I saw this man carving long elegant furrows into the base of this fallen Monterey Cypress. I pulled my brothers car off the road into a small secluded parking area and then walk over and introduced myself. The next hour passed so quickly before I had to say goodbye. We had the most profound conversation about life. I'm well into my second half, and he is nearing a graceful end. This Cypress tree carving could be his last. This is a sacred Cypress that he visited throughout his life. The ornate furrowing is the language that tells his life story. These photos reveal a story about his wonderful life that continues to touch a small northern California coastal community with such beautiful grace.
