Have had photography as a hobby since the mid '60's. In the analogue days I was a Minolta SLR user -- still have a couple of SRT101's hanging around but sold all my darkroom kit many years ago. After playing around with a digital Fuji for a few months I invested in my first digital SLR in 2003, a Canon 10D.
Having retired from my 'real' job I began spending more time on the photography and, having always been interested in cycling, started shooting competitive cycling events in the UK. My next SLR purchase was a Canon 1DMk II, which I still use to this day -- never moved to the III or IV but am interested in the 1DX! I got to the stage where I was working semi-professionally and providing input to cycling magazines in the UK but I was not really interested in taking it any further than that.
I also have an original Canon ID, bought off E-bay when the shutter on my 1DMk II failed at 44,000 actuations!
I moved to the SW of France at the beginning of 2008 and have continued with my passion for cycling photography, shooting events every weekend, although (you make think it strange) there are far less events in France than the UK!
My primary set-up for cycling photography is the 1DMk II with the 70-200 F2.8 IS but I usually also carry a Canon 7D (my latest SLR purchase) with the Tamron wide-angle zoom.
