I grew up watching slide shows of photos that my grandparents took as they travelled through the west and southwest collecting rocks. In addition, I spent every available moment outside in the mountains of Colorado where I grew up, skiing, hiking, hunting, and fishing. I developed a love for nature and a keen eye for spotting wildlife. My career took me a different route from the outdoors, into the world of Engineering, design, and manufacturing. It is a world of detail, preciseness, and discipline coupled with creativity in solving problems.
Several years ago, I inherited all of the slides from my grandparents travels. I spent months scanning the slides into the computer in order to preserve them and it awakened in me a desire to create my own memories of the beauty found in this world. My career gave me the technical skills, a great appreciation for details and my grandparents gave me the foundation to explore my creativity.
I love to explore how light and shadow can enhance detail when there is a rapid transition, to using light and shadow to soften detail. It all comes down to exploring light, it’s direction, and intensity that allows a photographer to bring emotion and focus to a scene.
