Peter J. Gergely

I can trace the photography bug back through the generations to my Great Grandfather who did it professionally in the early 1900's in Hungary. I also had proof of him calling himself a photographer, through Ellis Island records, when he came to visit his sister. I never had any of his photographs until recently, 2012-07-16, when a school class shot showed up on Facebook, with his 'copyright' in the bottom right border. Talk about excitement! :)

Family Lore indicates that I started taking pictures with a little Kodak Brownie from about the age of 7, through a stage with a 120 mm camera. The same lore also seems to indicate that I may have shot a few with my late Father's Exacta. I really started up in my teens, when I received a Pentax Spotmatic. I shot with the Spotmatic until I received a Pentax SuperProgram back in the '80s. These days, my camera of choice is my Nikon D300, although I still use the Nikon D70 occasionally as a backup camera. One thing is for certain, I know that I will never go back to film.

I doubt that I would ever call myself a professional, as I am always learning. Photography has become my primary hobby, especially since I retired from the workforce, after putting in nearly 33 years at it. I will shoot anything that catches my eye, and try to do my best at the take.

The majority of my photos are still over on Flickr at All that I kindly ask, is that you call me DM on Flickr. Thanks.
