Emil Gildebrand was born in December 1980 in the Swedish city of Gothenburg. He took his first own photographs during junior high school and went on to join the student union photo committee (CFFC) at the Chalmers University of Technology a few years later. As chairman he led the daily work of the committee together with the student union board and started the transition to digital photography within the student union during 2003-2004.
After graduating with a masters degree in electrical engineering (M.Sc. E.E.) in 2005 he moved to Bergen, Norway in 2006 to work in the offshore oil business. In late 2008 he moved back to Gothenburg and went on a 7 week trip to Argentina, Chile and Antarctica before pursuing his engineering career again. Working at PRC Engineering in Gothenburg, his main tasks include electrical, instrument and automation design for the process industry. Working mainly with ABB 800xA DCS systems, he has worked in the petrochemical, nuclear and pharmaceutical industries in various parts of Sweden and Norway.
