S. Daniel McPhail

Born in Lawton, Oklahoma, S. Daniel McPhail(Steve to his friends) grew up surrounded by the seemingly endless expanse of the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge and as a child of the 1980s. Raised in an era where every car might be a heroic Autobot, and even the most respectable of neighbors could secretly serve Cobra as a Crimson Guardsman, imagination became his calling card early on. Most kids grew up waging epic cosmic wars in their back yards. SDM just never outgrew it.

After a profound lack of athleticism grounded his dreams of following in the steps of legendary OU basketball star and early hero Waymon Tisdale, the writing bug struck in sixth grade and never left. It took photography a little longer to catch up. Even though he can still remember getting a blue Fisher Price 110 camera for his birthday, it took a Panasonic PV351 camcorder with digital still capability to ignite his passion.

Today, SDM has been published in award winning literary magazines and his photography has been seen at the Oklahoma State Fair and as an entrant in the Capture the Wild contest at the Oklahoma City Zoo. His upbringing and love of 1980s cartoons, science fiction, fantasy and mystery can be seen in his written work. As a photographer, his interests include wildlife, pets, sports and astrophotography.

SDM currently lives in Oklahoma City, home to one of the world's greatest zoos and home of the Oklahoma City Thunder, who boast the world's most insanely loud fan base. If he's not working, at the Zoo or in Loud City, he can be found at home with his fiancee and their small army of fearsome fuzzy creatures. Rumor has it he makes a mean cheesecake, still loves watching cartoons and dreams of the day he'll make the perfect batch of pasta salad.

He's also fond of writing about himself in the third person, which he just did here.
