Filipe Silva is a Portuguese nature photographer and was born in 1974.
His great passion for nature has always made part of his life and, as a teenager, he used to spent a lot of time around wildlife image books. One day, after purchasing his first camera, he decided to portray special moments while he began travelling around the world in search for wildlife and landscape scenarios. The results of his adventures have been well kept in his photos, expressing the emotion of being in the right place at the right time. Photography allowed him to truly explore the world and see everything differently.
In 2005 and 2006 several of his photos made it to the semi-finals and final in the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. One of Filipe Silva's images was awarded “Highly Commended” in the 2006 "European Wildlife Photographer of the Year" competition.
His images are, often, published in books, magazines and calendars. Filipe Silva is the director of the Portuguese Nature Photography online magazine where he collaborates with several articles related to Nature Conservation. Some of his prints are on display and for sale in different locations.
People frequently ask about the equipment Filipe Silva uses, but the equipment itself does not make photos; the photographer does. Cameras, lenses and flash equipment are merely tools. Please keep that in mind when purchasing your own equipment. The lenses used cover the whole range, from 15mm to the 500mm image stabiliser from Canon.
