Flo Smith is a freelance photojournalist based in Innsbruck, Austria and Erbil, Iraq.
After years of working in the graphic arts industry and maintaining photography as a hobby for some fifteen years, he started out as a professional sports photographer in the alpine extreme sports scene in 2007.
Shortly after getting his work published in reputable magazines and covering sports events for renowned companies such as Red Bull or Gloryfy, he realized it was time to finally dedicate his professional life to his main passion: Conflict journalism.
Flo Smith is currently covering political conflicts and social movements in the Middle East and the European Union. With recent missions in Iraq, Turkey, and Greece, and significant publications in outlets such as VICE Magazine, The Guardian, Wall Street Journal, and Time Magazine, he has built a respectable reputation among journalists and editors alike.
Thematically Flo has been specializing in exposing social ills such as poverty, homelessness and the exploitation of the workers as well as maintaining a longstanding connection to the European activist scene (house squatting, riots, and animal rights).
Due Flo´s path of life in spending over 10 years with climbing, mountaineering and big-mountain skiing, he is still working additionally to his emphasis conflict photography, in the sports industry with the main focus on climbing, mountaineering and alpine-expeditions.
