My name is Francesco Pennacchio, I am Italian and I live in Switzerland, where I am finishing my PhD in physics.
I started doing photography when I left Italy, as a way to show to my family and friends what I was experiencing so far from them. Then, the driving force who pushed to continue with this amazing medium was curiosity. I’ve always been extremely curious, when I took an atlas when I was 12 to study all countries and capitals, when I decided to study physics to understand the world we live in, when I spent two weeks alone in the Highlands to see - and photograph - how the North Sea embraces the Scottish high cliffs.
Despite my fascination for northern landscapes, my favorite subject are people, and my mainly focus are their daily life and work, their relationship with religion and folk habits and tradition - that I mostly explored in Spain during the Holy Week celebrations.
In one of my favorite novels, Alessandro Baricco’s “Novecento”, one of the characters says: “You’re not really screwed until you have a good story and someone to tell it to.” That’s what I expect from my photography : to be able to tell great stories captured by my curious, delicate and dedicate eye, and to find someone ready to listen to them.
I thank anyone who’ll read these lines and I wish him/her an excellent life journey and some exciting stories to tell.
