Retired and disabled award-winning photojournalist and investigative reporter.
In the 35 years as a photographer, my expertise was spot news, mostly wildfires, police actions, and rescues. That was also the same beat I covered as a reporter later on.
Being disabled has changed my focus on photography. Living on a large pond (or really a small lake) filled with diverse wildlife, I went back to my roots when I started off shooting wildlife and nature.
I was also an excellent street photographer, and I will be exploring the various cities and towns nearby. I developed my street photography on the streets of New York City during the late 1970's, all of the 80's, and parts of the 90's before I moved to Florida.
I find that Florida is a haven for wildlife photography, and I have extensively explored the Everglades and my local state parks. However, some of my best work happens around the lake in my backyard. Go figure.
I am a 2005 Pulitzer Finalist in Breaking News for my contribution to the Charlotte Sun's coverage of Hurricane Charley, and won many awards (local & national) for both my writing and photography.
I was the Photo Editor for the Venice Gondolier, Editor for AHN Media, and photographer and reporter for the Sun Coast Media Group's North Port Bureau. I am also a Past President for the Florida Press Club.
I covered Crime & Courts beat, Political and City Hall beats. I also covered professional sports, including the NY Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Tampa Bay Rays. Prior to my staff job, I started freelancing since 1977. I still have active contracts with Getty Images and the New York Post.
Among my other jobs, I was a police officer for 6 years, including just under 3 years for the US Army as an combat Military Policeman. I was trained in Heavy Rescue and EMT-D, and spent five years each with the Saddle River Heavy Rescue and the Midland Park Ambulance Corps.
I lived and grew up in Pearl River, NY, and now resides in Sarasota, Fla.
Among photography and writing, I also create digital artwork, and write a general blog, with two specific blogs in the works.
To keep busy due to my disability, I still take photographs, turn them into artwork using Corel Painter, I am an amateur astronomer (for almost 40 years), mainly looking for and monitoring existing asteroids as well as variable stars and searching for Super-Nova's.
I use a service where I buy telescope time that provides an array of different telescopes, which I can control over the Internet. Before the Internet, I would control telescopes via dialup.
