Massive swarms of starlings gather in the marshlands at dusk

The small birds join each other in flocks of many hundreds of thousands individuals. The starlings seek a place to roost using the huge areas of rushes as resting grounds.

In the marshlands of southwestern Denmark and the northwestern Germany up to one million starlings swarm every fall and spring while migrating between their winter resting habitats in the southern Europe and their summer breeding grounds in Scandinavia.

Bison bison!

A silhouette spotted through heavy snowdrift. A deep growl followed by a snort. A massive ancient creature revealed by a short period of calmer winds

Ignoring three meters of snow and temperatures below thirty degrees centigrade the bull is digging through dense layers of snow in search for his main food source, grass.

Bugs on the blog: Wildlife in front of my feet

When a roe deer transforms into a meadow grasshopper...

I got up early before the sun heading out for some wildlife shooting. A couple of days before I had bumped in to a female roe deer without getting any descent shots of her.

This morning though I was prepared with boiling hot coffee on the thermos and a camouflage net for making an on sight hide with a little help from some bushes.

Eyes of the wild

Starring directly into the wild soul of Mother Earth

He was looking straight at me. Approaching me slowly but curiously determent. I was both thrilled and a bit frightened remembering the road signs saying “Do not approach Elk.” There were no signs forbidding this bull elk to approach humans though, and he followed his curiosity without breaking any rules.

I was standing on the snow covered road near Slough Creek just west of the Lamar Valley in the northern Yellowstone National Park. This was day one on my first trip to Yellowstone – my first trip to the U.S. I spent a week in the snow covered Yellowstone N.P. alone only accompanied by the stunning wildlife and the beauty of the unspoiled wilderness.
