Gianni Cicalese, Italian, was born in Sorrento in 1965 and grew up in Salerno.
The sea has been a standard feature in Gianni’s life. When he was 20 years old, he left Salerno and moved to Rome to start his career in sound engineering. After 20 years Gianni changed his life, job and hobbies.
When in 2007 he discovered scuba diving, he soon felt the need to photograph life underwater.
Gianni’s first camera was a compact Canon G7, the second was a reflex Canon EOS500D with Nimar housing and now he uses a EOS 7D with Nauticam housing.
Gianni has traveled a lot and has photographed both landscapes and life underwater in Mexico (cenotes, coral reefs of Riviera Maya), Belize, Borneo, Malay (Sipadan, Mabul and Kapalay), Egypt (Hurghada and Sharm el Sheik), Seychelles, Indonesia (Bunaken island in Manado, Bali and Komodo park).
When not traveling abroad, Gianni explores the depths of Mediterranean sea. He has been several times in Ustica, Pantelleria, the Amalfi and Sorrento coasts, Ventotene, Monte Argentario (Isola del Giglio and Giannutri), Elba and Capraia.
Gianni is very fond of nature in all its forms. He loves traveling and documenting through pictures places and scenes of wildlife. Indo-Pacific sea, so rich in biodiversity, is his favorite even if Gianni is always searching for new places and creatures to be discovered.
His photographic style is still evolving in search of a compositional style that expresses artistic and documentary value, where colors, composition and naturalistic subject create a unique and recognizable emotional balance.
