Gennady Kurushin

Photography has been at the forefront of my life for more than 10 years. For quite some time old Japanese film camera was my primary instrument. I was particularly interested in urban scenery. Using film was a great experience, which taught me to appreciate every shot and plan before pressing the shutter button.
Inspired by classic photographers such as Adams and Cartier-Bresson I was trying to realize my ideas through shade and composition in black-and-white images. Eventually I started to work more and more with color and switched to digital format due to its practical advantages. Regardless of the tools I had to use, photography has always been about exploring beauty in surrounding objects and casual places. For me it is important to keep the original nature of the scene. Therefore, instead of transforming and manipulating I aim at underlining the elegance of the reality by drawing attention of the viewer to certain details. Nevertheless, I like experimenting. Influenced by books of Carroll, music of Pink Floyd I purposely create the atmosphere of surrealism in some of my works.
