back to photography

Published February 25th, 2012

so im back to working the cameras after nearly 2 weeks taken off in my home studio, recording some music. music has always been my no.1, and the last two weeks were pretty engaging. got a lot of work done on a new song, and that's gonna be complete very soon i hope

so that means ive still not been able to test out my canon P - i really cant wait to see some of the shots i got on that!

wats new is that i got myself a new sekonic light meter, the L-308s flashmate, which is a step up from the L-208 twinmate that i was thinking of. the 308 is digital, and works as a flash meter as well.. gives me options to expand my work, into flash photography as well. i think its gonna really give me a lot of help, and will be a solid investment. no more having to carry around my DSLR to give me light readings for my rangefinder! im also close on buying a flatbed scanner that can scan film.. this will greatly reduce photo lab costs! and i can get my new film photos up here in no time, in higher qualit ...

shooting with my canon P

Published February 13th, 2012

just got a couple of color C41 film rolls for my 'new' canon P rangefinder camera. weird to be calling a 50+ year old camera 'new' but i just got it. its new to me :D

one of the different things about using this old rangefinder, compared to other cameras, is the focusing system. unlike newer rangefinder focusing systems found on SLR cameras (newer as in 1980s etc), which use a split image rangefinder patch, this type of rangefinder superimposes a second image on top of the main image, in ur viewfinder. so instead of lining up two halves of a little square in ur viewfinder, u have to line up two full images. a bit difficult when its dark, but my canon P is in excellent condition, and the rangefinder is really quite bright.

more than the focusing, the hardest part using a canon P is the lack of a light meter. the external one that it usually comes with is dead.. normal for a camera of 50 years. and as i cannot yet afford a good handheld exposure meter, im currently using my DSLR to me ...

just an update

i like 500px. so i uploaded some photos today. in my 3 years of photographic experience, i managed to find 19 shots that i really like, and im fairly proud of. those are the ones ur gonna find on my photo page. most of them were taken on my canon digital slr. the last few (probably the newest 4 on the photo page) were taken on good old black and white film.

there's nothing quite like film photography, i think.. especially black and white. i find i cannot really replicate that exact look on a digital camera. then again my photoshop skills are not that great. and though its probably easier to shoot digital, with auto focus, auto exposure, n previewing on the nice LCD, and photoshop to get the look required, i still say there's nothing quite like black and white film. and thats why, though ive only recently started shooting film, im gonna keep at it.. and i hope that film makers continue to manufacture this stuff as long as i live!

if u like my photos, please comment. or follow. or frie ...

and here i am

hello everyone

this is (obviously) my first blog post on 500px. im just going thru some of the favorite photographs that i've taken myself.

on my photography side, my main interest has been street photography. shooting landscapes is probably my second favorite. im not really an outdoors person, but street stuff has always been my favorite, ever since i started looking at good photo with more than just 'ooh that looks cool', and began to shoot myself. the thrill of capturing a random moment of natural street life is wonderful, and although yet i admit im too shy to capture true street moments as well as i possibly could, im getting there. taking natural photos of landscapes is another thing i find very satisfying. as u can probably see, i love shooting natural subjects in natural light. no offense to the geniuses who shoot in a studio, but i truly hate doing that myself. i feel the art of shooting in a studio is completely different, and more to do with lighting setups and other skill ...
