I play guitar, bass, and ukulele as well as carry a camera around and try to capture my world through a lens.

Samurai Pizza Cats

This is the beginning of a documentary project of a ska band that goes by the name of Samurai Pizza Cats. I will gradually be posting my favorite shots from each time I photograph them. By the end of this project, I will have pictures of practice sessions (and parties) in their campus-famous house, promotional shoots, photos from live shows, and from recording sessions. I have a feeling that by the end of this project, it will be one of my favorite projects I have done yet.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

This was my final project for my large format class last semester. I will be posting my favorite photos from the 20 picture series every few days.

Artist statement:

One particular area of photography I find myself interested in is portraiture, but not in the traditional sense. I prefer taking portraits of people that define their personality by letting them feel comfortable and not posing them in front of the camera. For this series, I placed several subjects in their own environments, asked them all the same question, and took a picture while they were thinking and responding to my question while recording their answers. I explored the idea of taking pictures at moments where my subject is least expecting it and while they are concentrating on answering the question and not on the camera.
