What an experience, transcended on April 15, 2012, the Songkarn Festival, in Riverview with its collide-scope of nationalities and traditional Thai music, foods and dancing at the Songkran Festival. The River provided and awesome backdrop to this festive day with adults and children alike enjoying the cultural experience and traditions of thailand culture. The Songkarn Festival a celebration of Thailand traditional New Year’s Day from April 13th to the 15th, coincides with the New Year of many calendars of South and Southeast Asia. The most obvious celebration of Songkran is the throwing of water. This, however, was not always the main activity of this festival. Songkran was traditionally a time to visit and pay respects to elders, including family members, friends, neighbors, and monks, (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). On this day it was obvious that everyone was enjoying the New Year’s celebrations including myself. I was most impressed by the mixing of so many cultures, the coming together of this collide-scope of humanity in this country in order to celebrate this wonderful gathering of humanity in such a traditional way. I look forward to next year so that I my share this experience with my wife who could not make with me to this festivity at this time.
