Out this morning for my first shoot with the 80-400mm VR. It's a lens with mixed reviews, so I was a bit worried, but if this is any indication, I think this glass is a keeper. It helps that I had a super rare encounter with a barred owl, which I never would have been able to capture this way before. But more importantly, I was able to take deer, one of my most common subjects, and feel much more expressive in bringing out their personalities. I'm also experimenting a bit with an infrared look in post-processing and pushing my limits with higher ISOs while keeping acceptable imagery. All three of these were handheld as well.
